The biggest problem would be a door that is not operating smoothly. It sounds like yours is in good shape so you should get along fine.
If the door is operating properly, the opener does not actually have to lift much weight, even with a larger door. The door springs should take most of it. A 1/3 HP opener should be more than enough but 1/2 HP units are not very much more in price, so that is the way I would go.
