How hard is it to replace a heating core on a 98 Ford Windstar?

My heating core on my van blew out last winter and I need to get it replace. I bought a new heating core for 80 dollars and called a mechanic who told me it would cost 250 dollars for the service to replace it. Is it worth the 250 dollars to just do it myself? How hard is it to replace a heating core on a 98 Ford Windstar? If you aren't mechanically inclined, it would be worthwhile to spend the $250 to have it replaced professionally. Ford technicians are paid 1.8 hours for that particular job, on that particular vehicle under warranty, so for retail they usually quote about 40% more than the warranty time. At $100 per hour, that amounts to 2.5 hours of labour, or 5.0 hours of labour at $50 per hour, depending on how you look at it. The only thing that is noteworthy to mention, is that the instrument panel does NOT need to be removed to access the heater core on a Windstar, unlike many other vehicles. Simply removing the center console and the floor ducts will enable access to the heater core believe it or not. If you choose to take it to a mechanic, just make sure you he/she doesn't try to convince you that the instrument panel needs to be removed. Hope this helps. How hard is it to replace a heating core on a 98 Ford Windstar?its worth the 250How hard is it to replace a heating core on a 98 Ford Windstar?it will cost you more in the end if you try to do it yourselfHow hard is it to replace a heating core on a 98 Ford Windstar? It takes special tools just to disconnect the Jesus Christ clips that hold the heater hoses onto the heater core at the firewall. You cannot disconnect the hoses without this tool. I would jump on $250 and do it before he changes his mind. That is a job.
